We’ve made it through our first 24 hours home, and we’re all still in great shape. I know, I totally shouldn’t be up writing on the blog at this hour, but I’m actually waiting on it to be late enough to take my pain medicine so, when I wake up at 3:00 am to feed Sadie, I can physically get out of bed.
We got home about 9:00 last night, and I realized I had no clue what I was doing. Not in the sense of what to do with a baby, but what the heck I was doing in “coming home” mode. We weren’t supposed to “come home.” We were already supposed to be there. I ended up just sort of sitting on the couch with Sadie in the bassinette next to me, while Trevor unloaded the car and put everything away he could manage. Carrie and Nathanael (who have been an extrodinary help to us, I can’t even begin to put it into words) came down to finally hold Sadie, and Trevor and I ate a little. Feeding throughout the night went pretty well. She never woke up just screaming, I just sort of heard her making hungry noises and got us up for our routine–Trevor changes her diaper and re-swaddles her while I get myself “ready,” and then I feed and burp and he re-swaddles again and puts her back down–we’ve become quite the team.
We let ourselves sleep relatively late and spent the morning doing the feeding-sleeping or feeding-relaxing routine. It felt super good to have a shower in my own bathroom, and it was nice actually doing my hair–normalizing is good. Aunt Margie came by with BBQ (horray for my stomach being back to tolerating about anything) and to check on us. MC and Ashely hung out with Sadie and me while Trevor made a quick trip to the grocery store. We even watched a movie while Sadie slept on my chest–one of my favorite parts so far.
There have been some more pictures taken, and hopefully I can post them tomorrow. But, for now, it’s off to take some meds and to get some rest before our next mealtime.
Thanks for all of the warm comments and emails. I really do plan on writing everyone back as soon as I can.
